Importance and Scope of the Role

Administrative Duties (Front Office)

• Scheduling appointments and managing the calendar.
• Answering phone calls and responding to patient inquiries.
• Handling medical billing, coding, and insurance processing.
• Arranging hospital admissions when needed.

Clinical Duties (Back Office)

Clinical responsibilities differ by state and location, but common tasks are:

• Assisting physicians during examinations.
• Maintaining infection‑control protocols.
• Performing or assisting with diagnostic tests.
• Conducting phlebotomy, recording vital signs, and administering first aid.
• Providing CPR/Basic Life Support when required.
• Removing sutures, changing dressings, and assisting with minor surgeries.

Patient Education – The Core Responsibility
